Technology

At Eyecare Plus Karalee, we invest in the technology that helps our Optometrists provide better quality eyecare for you.

wide field Retinal Imaging

Retinal imaging involves taking digital images of the back of your eye. This allows our Optometrists to detect and monitor subtle changes of your retina, including your macula, optic nerves and retinal blood vessels. We have recently updated our retinal imaging machine to an Optos wide field imaging machine - this allows us to capture images with more than 4x as much retina compared with standard retinal imaging.

Retinal imaging is important for all patients, but particularly for diabetics, people with high blood pressure and known any eye diseases which affect the retina, such as macular degeneration and glaucoma.

OCT scan

OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography and is our most advanced diagnostic test available. OCT scans use light waves to take cross section images of the retina. This allows our Optometrists to map the thicknesses of the layers at back of the eye.

With these images, our Optometrists can diagnose and manage conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Corneal Topography

Corneal topography is where our Optometrists maps the front surface of the eye called the cornea. This helps our Optometrist to get better fitting contact lenses as well as diagnose and monitor disease which can cause distortions in the cornea, such as keratoconus.
