What can cause Blurry vision?

Common causes of blurry vision include:

  • Myopia (short-sightedness)

  • Hyperopia (long-sightedness)

  • Astigmatism

  • Presbyopia (needing help with reading over 40 years old)

  • Dry eye

  • Macula degneration

  • Cataract

Less common causes of blurry vision include:

  • Corneal dystrophies like keratoconus

  • A stroke or bleed at the back of the eye

  • Uveitis - inflammation inside the eye

  • Optic neuritis

  • Glaucoma

  • Something that interrupts the optic nerve as it travels through the brain. (e.g. Stroke or tumour)

How do I know what my problem is?

You can't know 100% by yourself. The problem is that most of these conditions can have similar symptoms.

Its not until you have a complete eye check which looks at both your vision levels and your eye health that you will get the right answer.
